Business Coaches, Joe Girard, LeopardThis morning we hosted a great session for a group of businesses as part of our five week series.  The focus of today was all about thinking differently.  At the end of the session, I was told by one of the participants that it was very freeing and unique from other messages she had heard from business coaches she had previously worked with.  She said that usually coaches would just tell her what to do to solve her problems.  They just provided solutions and tactics.

Instead, we focused on asking the right questions and creating the right thinking processes BEFORE we can even imagine to talk solutions.

The key takeaway today was all about learning how to make decisions and look at your business from a more holistic view.  We focused on mindset, thinking more systemically, and understanding how people make decisions.  We also covered fears and desires, psychology, networking, and thinking 10x larger than we already do.  It was all about freeing our minds to think BIG.

I have the pleasure of hosting these sessions with Dr. Domenico Lepore who is a brilliant friend and mentor, and the owner of Intelligent Management. Over the past 30 years, Domenico has consulted with a massive range of businesses all over the world, from 1 to 5000 employees, helping create systemic changes and major shifts in industries.  And he is also a super cool Italian guy to work with as he challenges me every day to raise my game, BUT is open to new ideas at the same time.  I am very grateful to be able to partner up with him on these projects!

Over the next four weeks we will have a blast helping participants gain a deeper understanding of their customer’s core conflicts, crafting solutions that really solve those conflicts, developing strategies to scale their businesses, and executing marketing and sales plans to deliver on the strategy.  Going to be fun!

Our goal is not to teach people how to DO more stuff with their business, but rather how to THINK about their business and decisions in a different way.   We will be focusing on the human constraint – that thing that holds us back from making the right change.  As you read in my post the other day on strategy vs tactic, that is precisely the problem most business owners have.  And I am also guilty of chasing the next shiny thing or new idea.  Innovation is not bad, but innovation without a plan leads to chaos.

What can you apply today in your business?

If you find yourself becoming busier and busier week after week, month after month, year after year, it may be time to take a step back and re-think your business.  We should always embrace complexity, while at the same time systematize our processes to simplify our lives.  We must understand our interdependencies in our networks and work to deepen our connections, building more genuine relationships.

Before you take advice from business coaches on the next new idea for your business, take a moment to understand the complete impact that idea will have.  If you don’t have a strategy and a crystal clear picture of your customer segments and their problems, you need to take a step back and get clarity.

  • What are their problems?
  • How do you uniquely solve them?
  • And how do you do that better than anyone else?

I look forward to sharing the progress of these next few weeks and I welcome any feedback or comments you may have on these ideas.  Let me know how I can help you with YOUR challenges!
