Morning Success Habits, Joe GirardDo mornings come at you fast?  Do you hit that snooze button one too many times?  Well if you do, you’re not alone as most of us are not “morning people.”  We stay up late, watch TV, maybe have a few drinks, etc.

If you’re feeling stuck and want to break through new barriers in your life, perhaps it’s time to reconsider how you wake up. It’s time to claim your morning as YOUR opportunity to change your life.

So before you pick up your smartphone, create better morning success habits that make an impact. And it doesn’t have to be hard.  Find 30 minutes to an hour each morning and make them your own.  Try it for 21 days and if you will be shocked if you don’t see MASSIVE change in your life. Below, I am outlining 7 morning success habits that you should work on and build into your ritual each day.  Try and see how you can incorporate multiple habits together.  If you work on these actively, you can have a super productive morning in 30 minutes and kick start your day the right way. And you shouldn’t feel stressed about this process, especially if it’s new.  Make it something you do for YOU.  Think about each of these habits as something you could see yourself doing daily in ten, twenty, or even thirty years.  What would your life feel like if you had a morning ritual like below?

1) Write

I have written in numerous posts about the power of journaling and I can’t stress just how awesome this morning habit is to get into. Even for five minutes each day, make time to capture your thoughts, ideas, inspiration, whatever as soon as you get up.  You can do it through a traditional piece of paper, an app, or a structured program, but get writing.  Try it for 21 days and see how you feel.

2) Read

Leaders are readers.  You must know that by now, the most successful people read every day.  Make it part of your morning success habits to read – even for 15 minutes each day.  If you can grab an uninterrupted 30 minutes each morning of reading, you will grow in leaps and bounds.

3) Thank

Each morning, take a few minutes and remind yourself what you are grateful for.  If you are journaling, hey write them down and you have two habits in one!   Do you want to know how impactful gratitude can be for you, read my post on how gratitude is the new willpower and can actually create long term success for you.  Even if you just stop for a moment each day and think about who and what you are grateful for, you will see a big change in your perspective.

4) Move

One area many people struggle with is their fitness and health.  Mornings sort of come out of nowhere, they jump out of bed and just get started being busy.  Working out and getting active seems like such a big commitment.  Well turn that idea on its head and just think of the word “MOVE.”  You don’t have to go to the gym and do an hour of cardio and burn yourself out, you just need to move around.  And you don’t have to be fit to just move. Go for a walk, ride a bike, or do some pushups.  Just get your body moving.  If you take a walk for 20 or 30 minutes, use that time to reflect and practice gratitude.  Or listen to an audio book.  Remember to combine these morning success habits together.

5) Reflect

Similar to gratitude, take a few moments to reflect on your thoughts, ideas, and inspirations each morning. Think about what you have done the past few days, the conversations you have had, and who you have been because of it.  Are these behaviours, actions, and attitudes consistent with your long-term vision for yourself?  If not, it may be time to remind yourself on your goals. If you are out for a walk, follow this Navajo prayer called “In Beauty May I Walk”

In beauty may I walk; All day long may I walk; Through the returning seasons may I walk. Beautifully will I possess again Beautifully birds Beautifully butterflies… On the trail marked with pollen may I walk; With grasshoppers about my feet may I walk; With dew around my feet may I walk. With beauty before me may I walk With beauty behind me may I walk With beauty above me may I walk With beauty all around me, may I walk. In old age, wandering on a trail of beauty, lively; In old age, wandering on a trail of beauty, living again… It is finished in beauty. It is finished in beauty.

This prayer is something that should remind us to take the time and reflect on everything around us.  To be grounded with the earth and be present.  When you look for beauty all around you, also look for that beauty within.  During your time of reflection, remember to remind yourself of just how incredibly awesome you are!

Even if you don’t feel awesome, if you are taking the time each day to work on your morning success habits, you should celebrate yourself.  Be proud that you are taking action and reflect on the fact that you are giving yourself the strength to do something to grow.  The more you practice this, the greater your confidence, and the more action you will take.

6) Set

All of the other tips so far are somewhat passive and observatory.  You should be thinking and reflecting on what is going on all around you.  BUt that is not enough.  You need to take action.  Each day you should take a few minutes to set your intentions.  Watch my video post on this as well as I go through how to do it.

Before you embark on the day, ask yourself what you want to accomplish.  Who do you want to be today?  What energy will you give to others. Know that the majority of people you will meet every day DO NOT have morning success habits and they are not as mentally, emotionally, and spiritually prepared as you will be.

The best gift you can give someone else is your energy.  Remember my post on mirror neurons the other day?  The people you meet every day are hard-wired in their brains to react to the energy you put forward.  If you are the cause for the new source of energy, you will attract more people to you, and ultimately success. Scientifically.

Be the person you would most like to be around each day.

7) Eat

I admit, this is one part of my routine that I struggle with.  But I have experienced the awesome effects of a super-charged morning nutrition plan.  And we made it super easy as well.  Get a good blender and just throw a ton of veggies, greens, some berries, and other kickass healthy stuff in it.  Mix it up and power it back each morning, whether you are hungry or not.

Getting a big dose of nutrition to set off your day will absolutely fuel your growth. Your energy levels will be through the roof.  As I write this, I am re-energized to go make my shake! I often hear people say that they just don’t eat breakfast.  Well, I don’t care.  Your body needs fuel and if you power down a solid smoothie each morning, you will thank me for it.

8) Enjoy

Lastly, as a bonus morning success habit, just enjoy the process.  As part of your gratitude and reflection, take the time to appreciate the work you are doing each day.  Understand that you are doing this for yourself and no one else. It may seem tough at first, but it should never feel forced.  When you create the mindset that you are building a successful life for yourself, the doubt should disappear.

The goal with this process is to increase your quality of life and DECREASE stress.  You have to trust in the process.
